Artist Biographies on SlowBurn Records
Bread and Circus is a four piece rock band from Tucson Arizona that plays a unique hybrid of musical styles. With influences that range from Dylan to The Stooges, early Alice Cooper to Gram Parsons, Bread and Circus takes a singer/songwriter approach to its music that might be described as country-psych-rock, or electric-folk-space music.
The band was formed by John Axtell (vocals, guitar), an audio engineer and
Signalhouse Recording studio owner. Axtell, who formerly played with various bands including Medicine Hat, Sun Zoom Spark, and Daddy Mac and the Drunk Tank, along with former Dharma Bum Sam Donaldson (drums), began recording material as a duo. What began simply as off the cuff recordings of musical ideas, soon developed into a large, diverse collection of material. In order to assist in the completion of the project, the duo enlisted former Black Sun Ensemble/Sun Zoom Spark guitarist, Eric Johnson (guitar, vocals) to add tracks to the developing recording project. As progress was made, former Los Federales Joe Yearego (bass) was asked to join.

With their line up complete, the band put together a live set. In the meantime, work was completed on their debut CD
"Spare Me Over", to be released on Tucson's SlowBurn Records label. Currently, Bread and Circus are playing in Tucson and elsewhere and are working on a new recording project.
