A largely transitional period, Mascara Snakes represents the last of the three collective four track projects on SlowBurn. During this era, the music evolved even further away from traditional rock music.  A largely instrumental collection of material, some songs are no more than ambient drones, some are complex musical explorations,  while others were taken from sound tracks for indepenent films the group was working on.  Interestingly enough, by the end of this period the band, for all practical purposes the members of the band came full circle.  The last project from the Mascara Snakes, New Land marks a return to a more traditional style of song writing.  By the end of this period, the members abandoned the collective projects that defined the early years of SlowBurn Records, concentrating exclusively on ensemble recording.  However, it was time well spend, the band learned a great deal about recording, and both instrumental and lyrically-based song writing.  This experience armed the musical cannon, hurling the members toward the next 10 years of music that became dominated by Sun Zoom Spark and Black Sun Ensemble.
