Black Sun Ensemble Live at Club Congress July 2003
Recorded at the peak of the monsoon season during the desert summer, this gig was one of a series of shows that Black Sun Ensemble played in the Club Congress hotel lobby, thus the constant conversation chatter during the recording. Because the lobby houses the front desk, a restaurant and a bar, BSE were aware that the volume level had to be kept at a minimum. This was the first time that the band began to experiment with a different configuration that featured Jesus Acedo on sitar guitar, Eric Johnson on banjo, kick drum and hi hat, John Paul Marchand on percussion and Brian Maloney on saxophone. The band went on to perfect this configuration over time, BSE were obviously still trying to figure it out on this recording. The wonderful reverb was all natural thanks to Hotel Congress’s cavernous adobe lobby.
Black Sun Ensemble Across The Sea of Id: The Way to Eden Demos 2003
This collection of tracks are from the initial ATSOI sessions in 2003. Some of these tracks were later built upon to construct final versions for the CD, others were dropped from the final song order. Ultimately, these tracks are skeletons with only this initial round of overdubs. After these sessions, production on the album halted as BSE focused on other projects.
